It is great that LEED is finally recognizing American grown certified wood from American Tree Farm System. Most American certified wood comes from ATFS and SFI. Would is a great green building material. Tree Farm certification makes sure it is grown sustainably in ways that protect and improve water, soils and wildlife resources.

THANK YOU for supporting sustainable forestry, through expanding LEED standards to include forests that are certified by the American Tree Farm System (ATFS). This helps to ensure that family forests are kept in active forestry and also decreases the likelihood of families being forced to sell their land to developers. With wood prices dropping over the past 10+ years, we need to ensure markets for sustainably grown wood are solid and durable, or else families will be forced to sell their land to developers to pay taxes, expenses, and other costs of land ownership. Again, THANK YOU!

I appreciate having the recognition for products from my family tree farm that this decision will bring. Thanks for all of the hard work by other tree farmers and the staff at ATFS.

Thank you for taking the important step of creating the pilot program expanding the certification programs qualified for LEED. Family forest owners certified under the American Tree Farm System manage their land to the highest standards of forestry, wildlife habitat preservation, and other ecosystem services. LEED qualification ratifies the important work they do and will provide an important market to enable them to keep performing.
I look forward to this pilot program becoming permanent soon.
