The department of social development, placed more than 160 qualified Social Workers in different NPOs around KZN, the department plans to stop funding these organizations at the end of this current financial year 2026/2027. These Social workers were promised permanent employment by the department when they gave them the bursaries to study towards the Social work Degree and during the time of their placement in these so called Non profit organizations. The department has exploited these professionals for the past 8 years, with no proper resources, no proper care, no benefits, or even proper salaries. But at the end of it all these Social workers are given targets to meet and report to the department every month. Their work is included in reports that are submitted monthly and quarterly to the department of social development. These professionals demand the department of social development to live up to it's agreement and terms of the contract they gave them when scholarship was offered. This petition serves to demand answers from the department of social development and full permanent employment within the service offices under the department.
