Its been 2 years since I left my ex husband who had abused me verbally, mentally, physically and sexually.
This man walks the streets and is a member of society because the system has allowed him to. We are not teaching the next generation that there is a way out of abuse and that their abuser will not have the opportunity to abuse again.

Legislators who use the excuse of wanting "smaller government" and, therefore, don't support this bill are putting innocent people in harms way.

As a prosecuter, I try to explain to families why a 10 year sentence means about 2 years on violent offenses, I tell them your legislators don't care.

Im a survivor of Domestic Violence. It happened years ago when you didn't talk about it. The day he stuck a loaded gun in my mouth with my 2 week old daughter in her crib right next to me I was certain would be my last. By the Grace of God his sister knocked on the door. The abuse happened for years because of my fear! It's time we protect the victims and send a message to abusers you will serve your time!!!!

It's unthinkable that a man would beat, maim, or kill a woman in the first place. That there are no laws to punish these offenders severely for repeat offenses speaks to the lack of concern from the lawmakers more than the illness of the offender. Put the offenders behind bars so they can't attack again, and get them some treatment, so they won't want to be that animal ever again when they are released back into society. Maybe then they can be a functioning member of a city or town they live in, rather than feared maniac that could beat or kill another woman at any given moment.

violent crime is horrific. people get trapped into emotionally thinking about circumstances. we need to educate people and unlearn them.
