We all need to work together to keep our planet a safe and clean place to live, and wisely use limited resources. Colleges must lead in this goal.

Scripps College is a forward-thinking institution that must take action against the pressing issue of climate change. Climate commitment would provide yet another reason to feel proud of my college and hopeful for my future.

I am in the Harvey Mudd College class of 2021 and believe that reducing our carbon emissions in any way possible is crucial to having a livable future. Our planet, and really, all of humanity is at stake right now because of the way that humans are treating the planet. If we as a collective species do not change our behaviors very soon, the damage we do will be irreversible. Moreover, it is not just large corporations that contribute carbon to the climate, but every single institution, businessmen, and person. That is why every step that any one person or collective can take towards reducing carbon emissions helps.
Education institutions make a large impact on how carbon emissions will be treated in the future because they educate the future generation. If the Claremont Colleges collectively agrees to work towards being carbon neutral within the next few decades, it will send a much larger signal to students to take this issue seriously than if only some of the colleges do. Please, Scripts, pledge to be carbon neutral by 2036 not only to help reduce carbon emissions into the atmosphere but also to send a message to future generations to treat this topic seriously.
