So many of my fellow retired Guardsmen have already moved to tax-friendly states because of this issue. We are planning to do the same if things don’t change. Between this issue, high property taxes and the high cost of living, Vermont is just not affordable. Our money can go so much further for a better way of life in other states, and I’m sad when I say this, as I was born here and my husband has grown to love Vermont. You need to pass this bill to help keep our veterans here. You’re losing a valuable resource.

Because Vermont today taxes retirement income including my military pension, we are looking elsewhere to move to that is friendly state. I feel after living here in Vermont my entire 61 years, Vermont is failing the retirement community and we no choice but to look elsewhere to live.

We are looking at jumping the river to NH due to the high, and ever increasing, taxes in VT. Our legislature needs to look at our neighboring states. Much like the education bill, exempting military retirement from state income tax, may stem the tide of those leaving VT for better opportunities.

It's time to pass this legislation in support of those who perform the job that 99% of the population choose not to do, but get to enjoy all the benefits, freedoms, and liberties that having a strong military protects. Also, it may help in retaining quality, competent citizens in the State of Vermont, stopping the migration to more military & tax friendly states.

I have lived in VT my entire life (minus joining the Army Active Duty and deployment to Afghanistan while a National Guardsmen) and have been retired for 4 1/2 years. With taxes and the cost of living rising, some months can be difficult ~ just a little help from the State we love and Defended would be gratefully appreciated!

I am a life long Vermonter who spent 42 years as a member of the Vermont Army National Guard. I have supported my community, state and the United States of America as a Guardsman. I am enjoying my retirement here in Jericho. I still pay Vermont taxes and support local business. Many of the men and women I served with have left Vermont. One common remark form all has been the cost of living here and greener pastures in states that do not tax Military Retirement. For those like myself military retirement is a significant part of the dollars I live on. If Vermont joins other states in not taxing military retirement, that money will stay in the states economy and hopefully Vermonters will stay in the state they so proudly served.

One of the reasons I did not move back to Vermont after I retired from the USAF two years ago. We decided to stay in NJ where military retirement income was not taxed.

This needs to happen. Our military pays are not a huge amount and taking taxes just makes it that much harder to live in re tirement.

vermont needs to ask itself if it really wants to encourage military vets to return to the state or not VT native vets to bring their capital, leadership and initiative to the state. As an active duty vet I can tell you every retiree looks at the states attitude towards taxing vets. 20 year to 20+ year Vets have payed their share. Their retirement shouldn’t be taxed . They have already payed the ultimate tax. VT should have the common sense to see this.
