The administration confirmed this morning that the Battle of the Bridges project is reinstated for the current school year. I am currently coordinating with the faculty to ensure a smooth transition back into the curriculum. We will continue to monitor the implementation schedule to guarantee the program proceeds as promised.

Final supporters
I will be meeting with Mr. Malanga at 9:30 tomorrow to discuss why the battle of the bridges is being canceled. I asked him to provide a statement to the 5th grade parents regarding why this fun and educational project was omitted. He informed me that decisions regarding trips, assemblies, and special programs are at the discretion of the school, not the parent community. He said that if a parent feels the need to speak with him about these types of decisions they can contact him directly. I would encourage you to sign this petition and/or reach out to him directly if you would like to help us attempt to save this valuable project.
I would like to be able to show him tomorrow that the parents and students care about this project. In additon, please let me know via the poll question if you would be willing to help problem solve any logistical issues precluding the Battle of the Bridges from happening. (i.e. testing the strength of the bridge) Our kids have already missed out on the space center trip due to the unfortunate closure, lets not let another STEM activity slip away from Wilson tradition unless absolutely necessary.

The volume of support gathered since this morning provides a clear mandate for our discussion. I am printing these signatures now to present them during my meeting to demonstrate the collective urgency surrounding this project.

This is a highlight of the 5th grade and such an important project. The whole process of budgeting for the bridge, earning enhancements for the bridge and actually constructing the bridge with the materials they earned are all fantastic realistic life lessons. It is so much more than a competition. It’s the process that will be missed. This should not be omitted from Wilson!!!
Sydney has been looking forward to this since first grade and all I’ve heard over the years is how fantastic this program is and how much the kids loved and learned from it. It would be such a loss to remove it from the curriculum this year.
This is the most worthwhile activity they complete in 5th grade. It is a Stem project but it also teaches them how to work together to problem solve and create something tangible. Ryan and Ally both have pieces of their bridges on their desks. They are still immensely proud of their bridges.
This was a fantastic team-building, long-term educational experience that my daughters participated in during 5th grade at Wilson. It was the best example of a STEM activity, before we were using that acronym. The budget planning, decision making and trial-and-error were valuable experiences that they still remember and utilize. I sincerely hope our 5th graders will have the same experience.
My kids have looked forward to this fantastic and educational STEM activity since first grade. Please consider keeping it, especially when they will be missing out on several field trips this year. If volunteers are the issue - while I am not a science person (at all!), I would be happy to help in any capacity you need to make this happen for our fifth graders.

Battle of the Bridges is a highlight of the Wilson experience! It gives the kids exposure to structural engineering, design, budgeting, and team collaboration and they LOVE IT. It would be a miss to take this away.
This is a highlight of the 5th grade and such an important project.
