I support a "Traditional" School Calendar in District 225 that doesn't start school earlier in the summer.

This would be a bad move for families and limit the time the kid have to enjoy real summer. June is traditionally very cool for us. I’d prefer you move to the kids starting after Labor Day!

I have no interest in sending my kids to school in the beginning of August and ending in the beginning of May.

I strongly oppose this calendar change. Having grown up in Glenview, we always started after Labor Day. As I have witnessed this June, we have had more 60 degree days or rainy days than anything. July and August and for that matter September are the wonderful outdoor months here. By shifting a calendar we are theoretically encouraging kids to be indoors possibly living more sedentary lifestyles because of the climate in which we love be. Let’s be practical here and start after Labor Day and out mid to end of June.

This is INSANE. When are we going to let our kids be kids? They are under enough pressure as it is. NO other school district around us that I can see is doing something this ridiculous. It's time we start making family time just as important as school time---and this basically takes that all away. Please do NOT move to a collegiate calendar - there is enough time in life for this. Let families and kids enjoy summer and summer weather. Most states (and even CPS) start after Labor Day. THAT should be the direction we are headed, not the reverse.

Make the 1st semester shorter than the 2nd, and have finals before break. Do NOT start school any earlier. Deerfield conorinaed by doing this. Why can’t Glenbrook??

Why not just make the semesters uneven? No need to start school any earlier. Other districts have done uneven semesters, quite successfully!

Please do NOT move to a collegiate calendar - there is enough time in life for this. Let families and kids enjoy summer and summer weather...in fact you should start post Labor Day...I am from New York and no school begins before Labor Day and finishes a tad later in June.

I absolutely do not want this to go through. It’s not a good idea for any child within the community. How are parents suppose to get kids to college if HS starts at the same time? Not mention that the weather is terrible in June and awesome in August. Why would we want kids in school during some of the best Midwest weather? Much rather them out side and moving!

Starting early will affect overnight camps out of state. They go until second week in August.

Agreed! I’m originally from Michigan where it is state law that public schools do not begin until after Labor Day! So much easier for families to navigate summer vacation and enjoy our Midwest summers.

Our family strongly opposes an earlier start to the school year. We believe it is premature for the board to consider voting on this change to the calendar when the community does not fully understand or support the reasons behind it. Clearly there are many unanswered questions, opinions and concerns about this topic and the ripple effect it will have. Please consider the impact this will have, and please consider alternate options that do not involve an earlier start to the school year. Thank you.

Radically changing the landscape of first semester without exhaustive communication effort seems sneaky. If the Board's driving reason to push forward the semester start date is to reduce student stress and anxiety, adding school days to first semester without addressing additional vacation days may prove severely counterproductive. Please don't push through a change while affected families are on break (and not paying attention.)

Hi schools always dictate the calendar to the elementary schools and rarely do they give consideration to their needs. This would prove a major disruption to them. Also, most of Glenn Brook high school teachers do not want a collegiate calendar. Also, there is little transparency as to where this is coming from and poor communication to the elementary school parents.

We oppose the shift in calendar and hope that the board will consider the broader community in the decision and maintain the traditional school calendar. Children who attend summer camps and who enjoy summer should not be out in the cool/cold month of May and sitting in school through the hot summer month of August.
