I would like the District 225 Superintendent and School Board to know that I do not want the school year (proposed for 2019-2020 and beyond) to start a week earlier in August. I do not support 18 weeks of school without any significant break. The Superintendent and School Board should have included parents and students in the decision making process about this significant decision. Changing the calendar will have a marked impact on our community and the decision should not be rushed.

Summer doesn't arrive to Chicago until after June 21st. In addition, many camp schedules follow traditional calendar and kids will not be able to attend august camps while parents will face babysitting issues in late May, early June.

That is the prime week for family vacations in summertime. With overnight camp as well as travel sports, the week of Aug 12 was always during our “regroup” family trips. Family time vs. school time??? Both equally important to me. There has to be another way.

This is not a good thing for the students. There is no good reason to move the schedule. Matching the college schedule will make it impossible to start kids at high school and college at the same time. This is wrong on so many levels.

I'm always eager to listen to proposed changes but this was not disseminated with the public in a clear or concise way nor have the "beneficial" reasons been clearly stated. An open discussion has not been had on the topic.

I prefer the traditional school calendar for multiple reasons. My high school students do not feel pressure over break to study and I feel the cons outweigh the pros for a non-traditional schedule (not collegiate as my college student starts around Aug 24 each year).

With our climate, the summer wont start until July. I do not want to deprive my children of their summer. Also, I have a child who plays sports at GBN. The fall sports tryouts will start August 1st. It means, no August vacation. Super inconvenient.

I do not support my teen losing the opportunity for work/camp in the summer. I do not support teenagers having nothing to do in May/June. The only time we can spend with kids on family vacations is the time you want to take away. I do not support taking away the festive, social events that would disappear in December because of end of term and finals. I would like the school year start later, no earlier than the week before Labor day. I say Do Not Change The Schedule or start the school year later.

I do not support the effort to change the school calendar.
