Bank of the West has announced that on Feb. 7, 2012 they will begin charging $10 per month for their once-free checking accounts.

We the undersigned demand that Bank of the West drop these plans to begin charging for its checking service.

If it fails to do so, on March 1st, 2012 we will, "Flee the West", and cancel our accounts at Bank of the West and take our business elsewhere.

The feedback I have received highlights how much these accounts represent a baseline of trust between a person and their local branch. I am currently reaching out to branch managers to ensure our collective position is clear before the transition period begins.

Reaching this level of response confirms that many people feel the same frustration regarding these new account fees. It is clear that we are building a foundation for a serious conversation with the bank.

TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. Greedy move by the bank.

Not cool. Been with them for years but if they do this I am definitely closing my account and moving to a credit union.

Enough with the fees already. Everything is expensive enough as it is.

Already looking at switching banks. Good luck keeping customers with fees like that.

Ridiculous. Ten bucks a month to keep my own money there? I have plenty of other banks to choose from.

I dont have extra money to pay just to have a checking account. They really need to rethink this greedy policy
