I complained to my doctors for over ten years about debilitating exhaustion, bone and joint pain and horrible memory and concentration problems. All they had to tell me was that I was "getting older" and needed to expect these things. (I was only 46 when this all started) I finally found some information on the internet, insisted I be tested and sure enough, that was my problem. I also insisted my husband be tested since he had kidney stones in addition to a few of the symptoms I had. He had his surgery three months after mine and we both have our lives back again. I missed most of my son's childhood because of this horrible illness! I don't want other people to have to suffer as long as I did and miss out on their children's or grandchildren's lives!

Even endocrinologists have no clue about this disease !! They are more concerned about the low vitamin D level and getting it up. That's about as far as they go.

I was diagnosed 3+ years ago and I'm still waiting to find a consultant in Dorset that is willing to remove the problem! ie remove the gland that has gone ape on me! There is only one curebut persuading some in the medical profession is like hitting your head against a brick wall!

I have hyperparathyroidism, and all its horrible symptoms destroying my body. I had surgery in 2008, and 3 glands were removed at that time. Shortly after I became hyperpara again, and going to have a second surgery to take 1/2 of my last gland. Doctors need to test for this awful disease, and let their patients know if their serum calcium is high. It's no joke to have high calcium running through your blood!

I had a parathyroid adenoma + an enlarged parathyroid removed at Norman Parathyroid Center on 4/11/16. I had 6 fractures over a period of 2 years and learned about hyperparathyroidism through an online group that I belong to. I had not heard of it before. I went through all of my lab work and discovered that my calcium had been high since 2008 and none of my doctors had picked up on it. My highest calcium level was 10.6 and PTH was in normal range. I self-referred to Norman Parathyroid Center who diagnosed me right away.

If I had not gone privately to see a surgeon I would still be suffering from this awful disease. A simple operation can change the lives of people with hyperparathyroid disease, but very few Doctors understand it. They just treat the increasing symptoms, which cause misery for the patient.

I had a parathroid adenoma removed at the Norman Parathyroid Clinic and my serum calcium levels never got above 10.5. I begged my internist and endocrinologist to test me in 2013, but they said I didn't need it. Finally I absolutely insisted that my endocrinologist test me after reading parathyroid.com. My osteoporosis has gotten awful and it could have been prevented if they had only tested me.

I am one of those people in the United States, missed by doctors for years with this disease. This is mainly because the lab reference ranges do not account for age differentiation and we are all lumped into the same category which includes young people who should and do have higher serum calcium levels. I am blessed to have been able to self refer to Norman Parathyroid Center in Tampa, Florida for a successful surgery in April, 2016.

I'm a sufferer with normocalcemic levels.
Day to day life is an emmense struggle. Yet the people whom suffer are the strongest, willed and mentally, people I know.
We will never give up fighting for a result.
And the NHS cut off point of 50 yrs of age is ridiculous. I can't even retire at that age. Why should I be put to pasture by the NHS at it?

Operation got done and now feeling 100% better
