A PETITION TO

The County of Waukesha
Department of Public Works

The County of Waukesha
Public Works Committee

The County of Waukesha
Sheriff’s Department

The Town of Delafield Town Board

We, the undersigned, maintain that the 2.7 mile stretch of HWY C from I94 to HWY 18 (hereafter “HWY C”) has become increasingly hazardous over the past several years to area residents who live directly on HWY C or off a side street that intersects with HWY C, as well as anyone else who may travel HWY C, and to visitors to Lapham Peak State Park (especially those pedestrians and bicyclists crossing HWY C on the trails), due to a number of reasons including but not limited to:

  1. High vehicle speeds, many faster than the posted 45 MPH despite a dramatic increase in residential density. One example of this increased density is the 1,000 feet to the north of Government Hill Road, which appears to meet the criteria stated in Wisconsin Statutes 346.57(1)(b) “Semi-urban district" and accordingly 346.57(4)(g) sets the speed limit for such at 35 MPH.
  2. Greatly increased traffic volume overall, dangerous passing zones, poor line of sight at Government Hill Road due to road elevation, narrow roadway.
  3. Tailgating and aggressive driver behavior, honking at residents for turning into their driveways, vehicles unable to stop, and passing in no passing zones.
  4. Inordinate heavy truck / gravel truck traffic volume (~11.5% of all traffic).

Now therefore we the undersigned:

  1. Call upon the Waukesha County Department of Public Works and the Waukesha County Public Works Committee to enact an Ordinance to change the speed limit on HWY C from 45 MPH to 35 MPH.
  2. Call upon the Waukesha County Department of Public Works and the Town of Delafield to cooperate as may be required to install Traffic Monitoring / "Your Speed" signs installed in both directions at Government Hill Road and at the trail crossings / entrance to Lapham Peak.
  3. Call upon the Town of Delafield and the the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department to commit to increased ongoing speed limit enforcement on HWY C.
  4. Call upon whatever Authority is applicable to designate HWY C as a "rustic road" or "scenic drive" (albeit it is already part of the "Kettle Moraine Scenic Drive").

DANGEROUS! Every time I pull out of my street I take my life in my hands. Do something before there is a wreck.

Too many people fly down this road like its a highway. We have kids and pets here. Slow it down already.

45 is way too fast for how narrow this road is. Need a 35 limit right now.

Just want to be able to cross the road to reach the park without worrying about getting hit by a speeding suv. fix it.
