Dear Honourable Excellency of Hungary Mr. Gyula Sümeghy,
 
We, citizens of the European Union, throughout the continent, would like to express our concerns about the recent entry into force of the new Hungarian constitution and the institutional changes affecting the architecture of Hungarian democracy. We believe that these changes conflict with the fundamental values of the EU as, for example, stipulated in the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the EU. By joining the Union in 2004, Hungary – like any other Member State – has committed itself to the values of freedom, democracy, equality, the rule of law and the respect for human rights.
 
We would like to encourage the Hungarian government to work in cooperation with the European Commission, as the guardian of the Treaties, to resolve possible violations of the EU treaties as soon as possible.
