Humble ISD Art Cause

Each year is the predictable need to plead our case for art in the schools. Please know this is so crucial to the development of the total child.

I think you are 100% right! I would also add, in order for teachers to have a strong rapport with their students and be able to connect with them on a deeper level (which needs to be done in order for them to express them selves through art) then the teacher needs to be with the students daily! Im an art teacher at Kingwood High School and fully support hiring full time teachers at the elementary schools. I feel my 5th grader in this school district didn't benefit from her art class, as the time she had to develop her skills and techniques, was only half of the time in art. Good job Charlotte! Im proud of you!

As the former Arts education director for Humble ISD, I can recall the beginning of the elementary art program starting with 2 schools sharing a single art instructor with a promise from the board to add 1 additional teacher per year until ALL elementary campuses were served by a single teacher. This promise was never filled. Hopefully this board will make up for lost time and fully fund equal part education on ALL elementary campuses.

I started the Elementary Art program for the Humble ISD in 1991. I was told at that time that the projection was to have an Art teacher in every elementary school within 5 years. It is high time that prediction happens.

All students deserve to have this opportunity

My oldest son always wanted art once a week in elementary school and could not understand why he had music once a week instead. Not every kid is a music or PE kid. They should be able to choose their path at an early age and have the resources to do so. We need more elementary art. Fairness for all campuses!

I own property in Humble ISD and although I no longer live here, Art has always been an outlet for my children to express themselves in ways that no other subject can. There is no reason why every child in Humble ISD cannot be treated equally! Please do not send the message that one area deserves more than another!
