When trying to use Avid and Pro Tools (industry standard) in L building, most computers crash the program for me, therefore losing my work or making it very difficult to complete my projects.

My biggest issue is the inconsistent reliability of the computers being able to link and transcode footage from the Sony cameras we're provided with in school. Supposedly, some the computers do not have the most recent Sony plug-in for Avid; causing me to have to upload the footage onto my own computer, convert the footage with a third software, and then bring it back into Avid at school. I could possibly update the computer I'm working with with the plug in, or even use the conversion software, but the school's computers won't let you download onto them without an administrator password.
Basically, I'd just like to have the computers in school to AT LEAST be able to read the footage from the cameras we're required to shoot with, so I can edit hassle free without having to waste my time going through a bunch of other pointless processes.

The fact that I pay near seven grand to go to a tech program, only to have to purchase the software supposedly provided at school for at home is incredibly frustrating. Not to mention a strain on my already small bank account!

The Software needs to be consistent throughout all the Labs. Since Humber has adopted adobe creative cloud, I see no reason why the I building labs don’t have premiere pro while L labs do and all the labs should have adobe audition for sound work aside from pro tools. The Hardware needs to be updated In terms of peripherals and I/O. There should be a procedure in place to let tech support/ I.T know that the mice and/or keyboard are faulty as well as the monitors. (If there is a procedure, I can assure you almost none of the students know what this is procedure is) Weekly I encounter a mouse that either cannot scroll or only scrolls in one direction and monitors that require fiddling to get a connection. I/o, with new tech coming out every day, our hardware should be updated. USB 2.0 and firewire 400/800 are the past. USB 3.0 and thunderbolt are now the norm. The normal F3 footage is doable on the systems, but if you record at higher quality with the pix, the bit rate of the files is much higher and file sizes are bigger, or if we students decide to use our own cameras, the systems can’t handle it as well as they should. Lastly is saving system preferences and embedding them within our Humber login Username if possible. For 2 years now, every single time I login into a computer, I have to open up system preferences, enable right click functionality, changed the inverted scrolling (if I get a mouse wheel that works) and change a few keyboard settings. It’s become quite tedious and would amazing if this could be implemented. Also occasional problems with licenses with Protools and read/write problems within Davinci Resolve. I have a recent example that has all these issues in one day. Our end of 2nd year music video. We finished shooting. Opted out of using Humber’s camera and used my own. We shot over 100gb and I started editing at my home. I told my 5 other group members that I will bring the footage to school and we can all have an editing session in one of the

For a program that relies heavily on the students using in school resources, the resources are quite difficult to use when security is constantly kicking us out. Without negotiating with security, it's almost impossible to stay past a certain hour in the labs and studios without being either locked out or kicked out by security.

Insufficient plugins on the computers, not consistent at all systems. Security at the studio threatening police if 'not evacuated within 30 seconds' while having the studio rightly booked.

Avid Media Composer's license is expired in the I building basement making the lab completely not usable for editing. The school really needs to look at these issues mentioned in the petition.
