Nova Scotia has taken a leadership role in renewable energy by introducing a new cost-based community feed-in tariff for renewable energy. This means community energy projects are now far more viable in our province and we as communities and individuals can be part of securing our own energy future.Paula and I have identified an area close to Three Brooks that is one of the few feasible locations for wind energy in the interior of the Chebucto peninsula (based on wind profile and access to the electrical grid). It is also on the fringe of the candidate wilderness area. Our belief is that while the preservation of our natural environment is important, it is also equally important to explore ways in which we can ensure a responsible energy future. We feel that this can be done in environmentally and locally sensitive way and that Three Brooks is a perfect community for such a project due to its commitment to living “in harmony with nature."This petition is designed only to gauge your support to approach the Minister of the Environment to give us the opportunity to determine if wind energy is ACTUALLY feasible in this small area at the edge of the candidate wilderness area - it is NOT a petition to go ahead with the project. We will simply be asking the Minister to give us a chance to study the many facets of this potential project before it becomes part of the wilderness area.Depending upon the outcome of this feasibility study there will be many opportunities for further community input, but it would be a shame to miss an opportunity such as this through inaction. You can get more information on the location as well as useful links at http://www.billswan.com2 White Pine RidgeThree Brooks405-2893
