HS2 - impending devastation of Hampstead

Please cancel the HS2 project as it will disrupt and devastate the village of Hampstead and beyond.

There are more valuable ways

please cancel the HS2 project - it will have serious damaging effect on the environment to little benefit. it will do ubtold damage to the Hampstea area

believe hs2 necessary, but object to 'scorched earth' planning

Total devastation of much of the country all to save a 'claimed' 20min which in reality is likely to only be 5-10min MAX as the HS2 trains will go to new stations, probably at least 10-15min from city centres.

Why create this nightmare, and for so little benefit?

I think existing railways should be improved and HS2 not built

This should not happen! Imagine at the height of the school leaving time, a broken down HGV lorry, and a burst water main on the finchley road..nightmares!!!

This is a truly shocking developement that can only have extremely negative consequences. y

This reminds me of the 1970s proposal to build a Westway-like elevated motorway through South End Green up to the A1, a similar exercise in municipal Stalinism in the name of "futureproofing" transport. What really makes no sense about this poorly thought-through proposal is that the London Overground is now an exceptionally smooth-running asset to the London transport system (after years of inefficiency as the North London Line), making travel to and from North London much easier and taking the strain from the Tube network by offering a viable alternative. After all the money invested to make it an efficient service, it would now be shut down or at least severely disrupted for several years. Also, as outlined in the petition, the traffic implications for the Camden-Hampstead-Kentish Town-Belsize-Gospel Oak area are horrendous. Aside from the pollution issues, the area will become difficult to access by either road or rail. The whole HS2 project reeks of money talking extremely loudly so I don't expect this petition or indeed any public "consultation" exercise to make much difference. But we can note who is boosting this project and hold them to account in future, either at the ballot box or by illuminating their commercial interests.

Enforce sustainability in our community by avoiding disruption

As a resident of Hampstead, I fully support this petition.

This sounds like a nightmare waiting to happen & should be stopped now

No one but those with vested financial interests wants this train line. It will not be faster when one considers all the other factors that could cause a train delays; it will be more costly than the already expensive trains, and it will devastate countryside, parks, villages and towns and blight neighbourhoods

As a member of the Heath and Hampstead Society I support this petition and agree with its content.

This is a serious problem which must be abated entirely.

A doomed project serving no benefit other than massging politicians' ego. Invest in our rail network instead

Please don't allow the lorries for the HS2 to ruin Hampstead Village: it is a very fragile place as is, ti would be destroyed by a decade of HGV passing through. Cancel HS2 altogether!!
