Housing Inflation Petition

As 8th graders of the Freetown Lakeville Middle School and residents of Massachusetts we want to take action in our community. We write this petition to address the inflation of housing prices and the resulting issue for people affected by it. We propose that money generated from the lottery goes towards solving this issue. By this we mean improving the rehabilitation programs that homeless and low income citizens participate in. As citizens of Massachusetts we see the results of this issue. In our Massachusetts cities and towns we see the effects everywhere. People are becoming clearly more and more financially stretched due to inflation and other influences. Where will they get this help? Many people think that others will solve this problem, but if not us, who? We want the help of our Massachusetts State Government to fix this problem. We acknowledge and understand that there are actions currently being taken against housing inflation, but there must be more done. We ask that more money come back to the struggling people that live in Massachusetts that the government collects from the lottery. Our very own Massachusetts Constitution discusses a Right to Shelter. How can we facilitate this right when our shelters are at maximum capacity? We must act swiftly; our problems are only worsening. We need your help, through your signatures. Our voices matter and so do the voices of those in a rough spot. We need to act!
