We, the undersigned, request that the proposed changes in the Housing benefit reform April 2013, do not affect families with disabled children. Under the reform, families with disabled children will lose the right to have an extra bedroom allowance made for housing benefit purposes. This means that thousands of families with a disabled child / children will be left with the choice of; 1. moving to a smaller property. 2. paying the massive shortfalls in housing benefit reductions 3. risk their disabled child/ren sharing with siblings. In many cases, this scenario would be dangerous to the sibling where the disabled child presents challenging behaviours; would cause broken sleep to the sibling, (where the disabled child receives night care), and cause massive indignity to the disabled child whom would have no privacy or personal space. Please reconsider the stance on this and allow the disabled child, whom already has many extra needs and issues to deal with than a non-disabled child, the chance to live in dignity and the family to remain above the poverty line by not reducing their benefits for having that room soley for the use of the disabled child.
