Jan 2008; The International Federation of Ingrid Betancourt committees and the Colombian NGO Planeta Paz have initiated this petition. A manifesto has been signed by over 300 academics and citizens wordlwide, among them 228 Colombians. The full text is on www.betancourt.info. You are invited to join them as they express their shame and outrage at the fate of the hostages in Colombia and the extent of the humanitarain tragedy in that country.
In their petition, they condemn not only the practice of kidnapping but condem equally the irresponsible attitude of the Colombian governemnt thta refuses to acknowledge the armed conflict and to apply principles of Internatinal Humanitarain Law as well as the policies of some members of the International Community, in particular some members of the government of the USA and of the European Union.

About time someone stood up to this nonsense. The violence in Colombia is out of control and the govt needs to stop pretending like everything is fine.
