If we allow an self imposed timeline stop us from honouring those that give their life in Defence of their buddies, we have well and truly allowed ourselves to stop seeing the humanity, the sacrafice and courage that makes it possible to do the task when asked.
Denying an honour here but allowing it elsewhere based on rank for far less sacrafice is a betrayal of the implicit contract between the troops and their leadership.
True leadership often comes down to seeing the easy way but choosing to do the right thing.
This is clealery what was done then and is obviously what is needed by the Department now.

I hope that the Minister of Defence will waive the regulation regarding the time limit on application for medals & allow a medals board to review his case.
