I was a regular at this club up to 1989 then I moved to London for a while. the phono was unique and definitely the First Goth /alternate club in the U.K.

first went in there in 84...when I was too young and couldn't believe that I had got in!!.and continued doing so until a year before it closed (due to myself relocating).many a saturday dinnertime and then Saturday evening spent in there.

Definitely my favourite place in the 80's, Goth's were a significant part of the culture in Leeds and The Phono was somewhere people knew about or visited from all over the UK. This has to be celebrated and recognised as part of Leeds cultural history

I started going to phono in 82 I knew it had been going from before then ..I consider myself as on of the first to enter into the goth movement.we merged from punk into the goth era.Xx.

Such a great part of the Leeds cultural scene in the 1980s and 1990s. If Manchester can commemorate its club history from that period, then why not Leeds? The CITY THAT INVENTED GOTH MUSIC.

I was a regular at Le Phono from the early 90's to the very late 90's... I was introduced to the Goth subculture by a friend and have never looked back. I'm glad to be a part of the Le Phono history....

It re opened and I'm pretty sure it didn't properly close till at least 2005
