I think city council needs to recognize that we have homeless people on the street and fining them for sleeping on sidewalks is not solving our problem. Why are our homeless people not getting off the streets and integrating back into the community? Where is the affordable housing and programs to help them get off the streets? Shouldn't the city be focusing on those issues? Can't we find a solution that helps local businesses and helping the homeless (it does not have to be one or the other).

I think that if Bylaw is going to set that law, they better make sure all the current homeless people will have a shelter to go to that will provide them with food, water, and a safe place to stay. Also taking there belongings is very wrong. For most homeless people, that is their whole life with them and taking what they own from them and fining them $50, is absolutely disrespectful and wrong. Homeless people would have to start all over again, if they got their belongings taken away and most of them don't have much money so if they take all there money how will they pay for anything they need. The people who are setting this law should try and put themselves in their position. How would you feel if someone just took your whole life away?
I really hope that if this be law goes through that bylaw will make sure there is a safe place for them to go and also to reconsider taking their belongings.

This is absurd. This tops people from getting their lives together. If and when they are able to get off the street they now have debt. Heartless. Where else are they to go. Instead of enforcing this it should be money into more shelter beds.

This is a ridiculous bylaw. Giving out fines will not help the situation. Council should use the brain in their heads to actually think of a solution, not a punishment.

Why are they trying to take money away from the people who have almost nothing? Some barely have the funds to feed and properly clothe themselves and now you're asking them to pay a price for a situation that they can't control.

As a nursing student, I've learned that it's important to look at the social determinates of health and by taking away a part of their living. Instead of fining them look at the SDoH and help these people instead of hurting them even more.
