Holy Souls Mascot Name Change from Wabbits to Something New

Someone please remove my signature from this petition. I hit the button by mistake. I do not believe in changing the name. Please verify whoever started this that my vote is against the change!

I hit the darn button by mistake. Please take my signature off the petition! This is ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS! My wife's family has 10 of her siblings, our 3 children, 2 nephews and 1 niece who are PROUD WABBITS! Whoever the parents that put this together need to get a clue, there are other things that you can put your energy towards! I read one of the comments that Monsignor Malone made fun of one their children. They should have put him in his place with a big laugh and smile! MIGHTY WABBITS THE TRADITION WILL CONTINUE

My family has been a part of this parish for over 60 years. Yes they were changed to the Trojans for a short time and while I was in school, they were called the Red Rage/Jackrabbits for one football season. Neither stuck. We are the Wabbits! Wabbits have HEART! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Absolutely not! My college students still take pride in being Wabbits! It's tradition and should never change. #onceawabbitalwaysawabbit

The name has been changed to those above as well as Trojans when I was in 7th grade. The mascot Wabbits come from Monsignor Allen and as much as some don't like it- Once a Wabbit always a Wabbit. I was a Wabbitt and so were my children. PLease DO NOT change the name of the school mascot.

We have changed the mascot to Red Rage, Rabbits, and even JackRabbits and none of those lasted more than a basketball season. Are those of you requesting a mascot change here at HSS for just junior high or have you been invested in this school for years? I'm just asking. The tradition runs deep and I'm afraid you may be outnumbered. I can understand the silliness of the mascot but this isn't high school and it shouldn't be taken so seriously. If morale is low as you suggest, it's most likely not from a mascot name. Good luck to all the current and future Wabbits who have the privilege to walk the halls of such a fine school.

My kids and grandkids were Wabbits and never thought the name was silly. We tried Jackrabbits one year and everyone wanted to go back to Wabbits. "We are the Wabbits! The mighty mighty Wabbits!" Tradition

If your child is being made fun of by a priest, I'd suggest taking that up with the priest. That's ridiculous.

Wallace is correct. We have changed the name in the past. At least once officially and several attempts unofficially. But we always come back to Wabbits, because we are Wabbits. 5 or so years in a 90 year history being something other than Wabbits does not negate the tradition. My college changed its mascot after I graduated. It's just not the same. You don't feel the same connection - you aren't cheering for the same team. I get that someone might look at it as a silly name. But it's not a silly name to those of us who are proud to be a Wabbit.

I agree - if this change has been suggested because of some sort of bullying, are we not giving in to the bullies? Why are we not addressing the bullies? Didn't we just have a birthday celebration for our school? School pride should have nothing to do with a mascot - being a Wabbit is tradition. Having pride for your school comes from within.

If kids are being bullied over this, maybe it's THOSE kids who need to change. Not the ones being bullied. This completely, 150% does NOT have my support. It sends the wrong message to accept bullying and change because of it. My entire family has attended Holy Souls since the 1950s. To be a "Wabbit" is tradition. I even played sports for Holy Souls, but wasn't very good. Usually stayed on the bench, but that's another story for another day. It was never an issue. Some thought it was funny, but we never once thought about being something else. Proud of it then and proud of it now.

As an actual HSS student & alum from 1968-1976, a member & starter on the 1975 undefeated 10-0 Wabbits football championship team, basketball player & parent of 2 HSS alumns, I'm against this petition & name change. #Tradition

History Comment: I have heard that we have always been the Wabbits and for that historical reason some people prefer to leave the name as it is. But, from 1968 to 1973 we changed our name to the Trojans. (Source: Arkansas Institute of Studies). We are not proposing something that hasn't already been done before.

I don't know that there is a majority of people who want to change it or not. I'm not for changing it. I'm a proud wabbit alum. With a boy alum and current girl wabbit. It's unique. Is it ferocious? No. Is changing the mascot going to change how they perform? No. We go through this every few years. Can't we just leave it alone? Are kids truly bullied, or taunted about the name? There's a difference. We've gone through attempted changes in the past and they never work. I seriously think there are better things to focus our time and energy on than a cute mascot name.

We need to change the mascot. I think it will boost morale. Our kids are getting bullied from other students from other schools. Mine were even made fun of by Msgr. Malone!!!!

As a parent of a Holy Souls student, we would like to change the name of our mascot from Wabbits to something more appropriate and inclusive of all of our students. It seems that a considerable majority of our parents and students would be in favor of changing the mascot name. Since it appears there is a lot of support to change the mascot name, why not change it? We would like to vote for a change in the name of our mascot to something that is more inclusive (boys and girls can all be proud of). We believe there is a large group of parents in favor of changing the name to almost anything other than Wabbits. Therefore, we would like to petition and eventually vote for the mascot name to be changed to another name to be decided upon with input by school leadership and the student body.
