Hold Rosanne Franco (GNBVT Academic Principal) Accountable

It wasn't a well thought out reply or venue to express frustrations or biased remarks about his students. It was racist and with a violent component (guns) thrown in the mix. If we have to make this a law so teachers and administrators have clearer boundries of acceptable behavior, we will do that. Glad he's gone.

Teachers posting publicly on social media need to held accountable for what they write.

Any school leader who is not actively working to interrupt the social evils (white supremacy, heterosexism, patriarchy, and so on) that both enter the school building and that are produced and reenforced in the school building IS essentially complicit in its support and should be removed. Of course, active interruption does not mean symbolic gestures towards multiculturalism, but serious efforts to engage the voice of marginalized communities and enact projects that build power in those communities while addressing the systemic and historic disinvestment that shifts power and privilege to the "elite."

I don't understand how social media is not regulated for this schools employees but it's regulated for the students? How is a school supposed to be a safe environment when there is racism being tolerated! It's completely nonethical for a TEACHER to post something so horrible on social media for everyone to see, including students. Yeah, sure he has a right to freedom of speech. But when you create an uncomfortable environment for students at your job, it's a completely different story. He should have gotten fired on the spot. Because if a student was to say something about another student on social media and Franco seen it then that student would have been suspended from school. But freedom of speech right?

It's not that easy to "let it go" your probably not a student of color, and you don't know how it feels to see comments like that from a teacher at a school you attend. Clearly the teachers having sex with the students have the consent of the students to do so, this is an important topic. Everyone is supposed to feel safe in school right? How are we supposed to feel safe if a teacher is saying horrible comments about minors of color? Case close.

I love this school

The administration at this school in general is pretty corrupt. What about the girls softball team? They have a whole half-day dedicated towards the champions. Every student went into the Field House to celebrate the Girl's Softball team. They all get congratulated, and got a banner hung up. However, a parent on the opposite team complained, because one students from the team wasn't from the "GNBVT School District" (Dartmouth, New Bedford, and Fairhaven). Now, the whole team loses their title, their rings, and the banner in the field house. The whole half-day celebration was for nothing. All of the student body and faculty had their time wasted. But what did they do to the student who doesn't live in the district? Nothing. She still went to the school. They made a very unfair move on the whole softball team, and the school as a whole.

It is appalling, and quite frankly, frightening to know my principal prioritized a potentially violent bigot over the student body. Mrs. Franco covered up Lino Cabral's statements for months. When academic teachers, trade instructors, and other staff expressed their anger towards the lack of action taken against Lino Cabral, they were told be silent and do their job. Mrs. Franco had no intention of addressing these statements or enforcing the morals GNBVT claims to stand for. The only reason Mrs. Franco and Mrs. Franco acknowledged Cabral's statements was the explosion of social media posts and the phone calls/emails to the school. Students were forced to attend a rally celebrating our morals and core values, yet our academic principal fails to have any values herself. Cabral's threat of violence against people of color were highlighted around the same time Dylan Roof shot 9 black people in a church. This could have easily became the same situation and Mrs. Franco has confirmed to us that she does NOT care. Minority students are not a priority to her. We are racially profiled by security. We are stereotyped by our teachers. When we are in honors and AP classes we are never congratulated the same way our white counterparts are. When we wear sweatshirts with different patterns on them we are assumed to be associated with gang activity. If we are singing or rapping in the hallway (with other white students), we are the ones reprimanded. All we do in that building is scrutinized. Instead of Ms. Franco using Cabral's bigotry to finally address these issues, she chose to ignore us and protect Cabral. I cannot put into words how angry and disgusted I am by GNBVT's failure to handle this situation. I hope Mrs. Franco as well as anyone else who agrees with her can do some soul searching and do the right thing. Willful ignorance is the worst kind.

This is a stupid petition! I urge everyone not to sign this! Both teachers have helped many students become better people!

To all of you claiming he isn't racist for those comments, little do you know. Little do you fucking know how scary it is to be a young black teen, signing into facebook to see that an educator that you pass by everyday has such a disgusting mindset. You don't understand how it feels to just realize that you've been walking by a man who thinks so god damn less of you, enough to post it online, nevermind what he keeps to himself. It's scary. You do NOT understand. Do not tell us we do not have the right to fear walking into a learning environment with this going on. And it isn't over because as long as administraters who tried to cover up Cabral's awful act of racism are working there, I still feel unsafe.

No one liked her everyone knew she was rasict.

I enjoyed my time as Voc-Tech and I still miss it from time to time. I remember however, that Ms. Franco was a serious source of discontent among the student body, and not simply because she was strict on security. She treated the students as though we had committed some awful crime or were about to do so. She treated us like we were delinquents and suspects. She once confiscated a student's phone and when he went to pick it up at the end of the day, she attempted to get him to log into his Twitter because she believed he was doing 'inappropriate things' on there. She had no proof and so could do nothing when he refused to log in. The thought that she believed she had the right to even ask that of a student without proof troubled me then and still troubles me today. I can only imagine her regime has gotten worse since I graduated and I feel badly for the students who must tread carefully in the halls, so as not to incur Franco's wrath over some insignificant mistake. Beyond her obvious boundary issues, the fact that she so easily dismissed the racist and violent comments a teacher - friend or not - made on social media and chose to protect him over the students in her care is extremely troubling and simply proves further that she does not belong in charge of any students of any age.

I enjoyed my time at VOC-TECH. I always remind myself how lucky I was to be a student there. A lot of teachers genuinely cared for us as individuals. They pushed me to do right although I wasn't on my best behavior sometimes. Ms. Franco became head of security my Jr. Year and all she really did was look for negative in the students. Never tried to educate us. I don't hope for the worst but I do hope she gets what she deserves. Other then that I love my old high school!!

To be honest yeah I get it she's a bitch and all and I completely understand this but where' all getting mad because of his comment but we need to look past it because what just what if he was brought up like that? TO BE HONSNT LET IT GO WE SHOUKD BE WORRYING ABOUT THE TEACHERS THAT HAVE SEX WITH THE STUDENTS. Case close

i've never had a problem with her, but it doesn't mean that she can let someone especially faculty to make racist comments seen by already alot of people. I think she should be held accountable for just not doing anything about it.

She's got to go.....What's wrong with these people ? Clean house and see you later...I've had enough of this crap already ! True colors show very clearly. Cast them ALL out...
