Dear PEMRA,

On Aamir Liaquat's morning show "Subh-e-Pakistan" aired on December 22 on Pakistan's GEO TV, a panel of clerics (Mullahs) falsely accused Pakistan's peaceful, patriotic and already persecuted Ahmadi community of backing terrorism in the country. They labelled Ahmadis "Jewish agents" and defamed them as traitors of the State. The Mullahs on the panel urged Pakistanis to let go of their differences and unite against the "qadianis" - the "root cause of terrorism" in the country.

It must be remembered that Aamir Liaquat promoted similar anti-Ahmadi hate speech from his GEO TV show in September 2008 as well. Three prominent Ahmadi leaders were gunned down within two days of that broadcast. Neither Geo TV nor Mr. Liaquat ever apologized despite their clear role in incitement of this anti-Ahmadi violence.

Six years have passed since. We must not wait for dead bodies to pile up this time.GEO TV and Mr. Liaquat must be held accountable for inflammatory hate speech and incitement to violence.

We urge you to look into this issue immediately and take action against those exploiting the media to flan the flames of divisiveness and sectarianism. PEMRA can and must play its due role in our war against extremism by ensuring that its ideological basis - rampant hate speech and stigmatization of minorities - is checked, and punished.
