If I was a crew member, I would refuse to step foot on the Hōkūleʻa with the USA flag flown from it, especially above the Hawaiian Kingdom flag. There is no treaty of annexation to justify it, nor did Polynesian double-hulled canoes originate in the USA. If enough crew members refused to continue sailing with the USA flag, the voyage could be stopped until one of two things happen: The corporate sponsors either accept the demand, or pull their money out. The crew members should dare them to. If the voyage stopped because the corporate sponsors insist that the USA flag be flown on Hōkūleʻa, or flown above the Hawaiian Kingdom flag, then they will face negative press and Hawaiian outrage on social media.
Unabashedly flying the American flag from the Hōkūleʻa, and worse yet, flying it above the Hawaiian Kingdom flag, with Hawaiian crew members aboard, the worldwide voyage conveys the message that Hawaiians are happy under American rule, and that Hawaiʻi is annexed rather than occupied, despite the absence of an annexation treaty.

There is no treaty of annexation the U.S. invaded Hawai'i historically illegally and never left. I COUNTRY CANNOT TAKE AN OTHER COUNTRY with an ACT of their own congress. AKA Hawaii's Joint Resolution.

They are following the travels of our ancestors. The very ancestors whose descendants formed the independent Kingdom of Hawai'i. It is only rightful for them to fly the Kingdom's flag out of respect to those who came before them. It is okay to honor other nations, but honor your own first.
