I am alum of GlenOak High School who is petitioning for the termination of Boy’s Varsity Basketball Coach Jack Greynolds.

Initially, there was a positive vibe and excitement with return of Coach Greynolds.Over the past years, the atmosphere has quickly become negative. The following are examples of the influence we are allowing to be presented to our young men:
Leaving an athlete at an away game.Players having to calm down the coach to prevent him from getting another technical.Changing the rules to be able to punish certain players instead of setting team standards.Slamming chairs during gamesKnocking stuff over during games.Throwing a chair during a game.Allowing his wife to belittle players on the bench.Discouraging kids not to tryout because he doesn’t know them.Excessive profanity used during the games and to the players.Lack of follow through for prospective college recruitmentBelittling players and breaking their spirits.
Why is this acceptable? These actions would never be condoned for our players. We want our Student Athletes coachable, not learning these types of behavior or believing this is acceptable and/or tolerated. Parents are entrusting their child with a coach. A coach is supposed to represent his school. Is this the reputation we want to have?
Since Coach Greynolds returned to GlenOak, the JV and Freshman teams have had a better record than Varsity. When the same players move up to Varsity, the record isn’t improving. In fact, it is declining. We have the advantage over many schools. The players have the chemistry from playing together since little Eagles. We even have new players who fill in the missing pieces to complete the foundation of a state bound team.Unfortunately, this hasn’t happened because of the decisions and actions of Coach Greynolds. He has demonstrated lack of professionalism, sportsmanship, ability to relate to all of our players and leadership. We need a coach who has high ethics, able to work for all of our players—regardless of their background, and our program. A coach who will strive to achieve the proud tradition we have at GlenOak.Not a coach who brings in adversity and dividing our team and administration. Our program has turned into an embarrassment. This is not only internally, recognized by the players, parents, administration and boosters, but with the Federal League and Stark County. This has affected our Glenoak Basketball family not only mentally, but financially. This year, we have lost many contributions and support from sponsors and Boosters. Also, the decline of support in the stands has become noticeable.
This past season, we had the talent and ability to have a winning season.Due to the poor decisions of Coach Jack Greynolds, our team typically finds themselves in an early deficit.Substitutions are made that enable us to dig ourselves out. Then the players, who have caused the deficit, are subbed back into the game.It is hard for a player/team to keep his/their momentum going when he/they is/are continuously taken out.It is placing unnecessary pressure on the team and making certain players carry the weight of the game on their shoulders.
We need a coach who is not only to provide the fundamentals of basketball, but for life.Provide these young man with the most positive, fair and rewarding experience. We need a coach who will select players based on their potential and/or ability, not their connections. We need a coach who is going to play the players because they are the best fit for the position regardless of their personal relationship to the coach. These elements are going to allow us to get back the positive, proud and respectful reputation GlenOak has started to lose. Having these characteristics will allow us to build a program towards a State Championship. Instead of a school who is constantly questioned because of our coach’s poor decisions.
For the reasons stated above, I am petitioning for the termination of Coach Jack Greynolds as GlenOak’s Boys Basketball Coach.
