The transit authority finally agreed to update the bus sign to acknowledge the boulder. I have spent months chasing down this simple recognition for our history and it is a relief to see it happen. We have won this corner back for the neighborhood.

Final supporters
Just inside the fence of Greenwood Cemetery at 35th Street is the Sunset Park Historic Boulder - brought here 14,000 years ago by a glacier. It is a reminder of the oldest story of Sunset - the Legend of Martense Lane. The legend tell of a similar boulder in Dutch times that sat at the intersection of Martense Lane and the Old Gowanus Road. That location saw the first shots of the Battle of Long Island. This boulder marks the location of Martense Lane. We would like the MTA to add a mention of the Historic Boulder on their bus stop sign that is just about 20 feet away.

The climb toward two hundred and fifty names has been exhausting but we have to keep pushing until someone at the MTA finally pays attention. Dragging this boulder of a campaign up the hill is taking everything I have left so please get this in front of anyone who cares about our local history.

I would like the M.T.A. to add a mention of the Historic Boulder on their bus stop by Greenwood Cemetery at 35 street and 5th Avenue Sunset Park Brooklyn. Thank you. .
I agree to sign the petition so the bus stop could be move near the historic boulder
The Martense Lane Boulder marks a significant segment of our areas' history. Having signage, on the nearby bus stops, will be a valuable help to those that have not yet been able to locate the historic boulder. We would greatly appreciate if the MTA would add this signage to their two nearby bus stop signs
The Boulder is very hard to find. We are asking for a sign so it can be found hidden behind the cars. This sign would be very important to our neighborhood and the story behind its origin. Thank you.
Such an easy thing to do to educate the public about the history of our area. Please put up a sign!
