Just inside the fence of Greenwood Cemetery at 35th Street is the Sunset Park Historic Boulder - brought here 14,000 years ago by a glacier. It is a reminder of the oldest story of Sunset - the Legend of Martense Lane. The legend tell of a similar boulder in Dutch times that sat at the intersection of Martense Lane and the Old Gowanus Road. That location saw the first shots of the Battle of Long Island. This boulder marks the location of Martense Lane. We would like the MTA to add a mention of the Historic Boulder on their bus stop sign that is just about 20 feet away.
