This history and building is an essential part of this city’s civic identity. It’s future preservation should be important to every citizen there. Protect and reclaim your history.

I urge you to give the original Rosenwald Structure at the Hinesville Shaw Elementary School your highest consideration for preservation. This school represents local history and the early educational opportunities afforded African American children through unique partnerships that extended beyond race, religion and economics. The school, community and pride instilled in the students during this time should not be forgotten. As more buildings like this disappear from the landscape, future generations will become further distanced from the struggles ensued by people of color. They should also understand how people like Julius Rosenwald and Booker T. Washington helped raise them up. Please find a way to save this school and to continue sharing the this legacy.
