Hindi is the most spoken and understood language of the migrant Indian population in Australia. There is a wide uptake of Indian culture across Australia through participation of Australians in Indian festivals like Diwali, attendance at various Indian culture performances and Indian Film Festivals. Indian cuisine is one of the most popular cuisines in Australia. To continue to enjoy and enrich our lives with elements of Indian culture, one step forward will be to incorporate Hindi in the pilot program to deliver foreign language “apps” into 40 preschools next year.

India is an emerging economic power. It is in Australia's interest to develop skills in Hindi, the official and majority language in India and a language spoken by the third highest number of people in the world.
