Dear Hillman Board of Directors,

We are writing to you as a group of Hillman cooperators who have been dismayed to learn that our neighbors, Lauren and Evan Forsch, have been rejected in their application to purchase Apartment 9F at 530 D Grand Street. We know Lauren and Evan as an integral part of our Hillman community—a family who has shown commitment and generosity in giving back to our neighborhood in many ways.

We take pride in the fact that amidst a largely gentrifying city, our corner is a community that still retains a small-town flavor, defined by the virtues of the people who live here. Lauren and Evan Forsch have contributed greatly and have shown caring and concern for their neighbors time and again. Turning them away would be a true loss for Hillman and serve no one well in the long run.

As any New York parent with young children caught in a predicament between buying and selling apartments knows, such a situation is one of the most stress-inducing scenarios imaginable. If the Forschs’ subletting arrangement was cause for the rejection of their application, we respectfully ask that the Board reconsider their decision and retroactively accept whatever fees might be applicable. This, we believe, would be both the most logical and ethical course of action.

If the decision were based on any other quantitative reasoning, we ask that the Board look at the intangible assets Lauren and Evan have added to the community, and again, reassess their application. It would be terribly unfortunate to lose them.

Please address any response to: Kim Sillen, 530 E Grand Street, Apt. 3E

Thank you very much in advance for your prompt reconsideration of this issue.

Sincerely,

The undersigned...
