I am a parent at hightower and am completely appaled at the idea of hightower not having the block schedule next year. The block schedule is so beneficial to childern who are in APvlasses and esspecially convienent to the academy students; taking it away will be a huge mistake!

As a 2011 Hightower graduate, it made me to hear about the removal of the block schedule. Even when I was still a student at Hightower, there were rumors going around about taking away block schedule to become the same like all the other schools within the district. But it was never done because it was part of the tradition, part of what made Hightower different and stand out among the others. Most people do not realize the importance of how block schedule is among the students. You get 90 minutes of class time instead of 45 minutes. The learning is easier to comprehend and allow the students to grasp the concepts better. You can do only so much during a 45 minutes time period, but with the extra 45 minutes... you can do so much more. When I was a freshman, I thought "wow, how will I be able to stay focus in one subject for 90 minutes straight". But as the months passed, I realized that I was able and that I learned more because the teachers had more time to go over the subject. Not only that, homework is able to get done on time and faster, allowing the students to be less stressed. I remembered when I took all honors and AP classes, there were loads of homework and assignments that needed to be done and turned in on time. Even then, I was stressed out. I can't imagine the workload if all 7 classes was held on the same day. Yes, I understand that students from other schools managed to do it, so why can't Hightower students do it as well. Well reasons is, do we know how many late assignments have been turned in? Do we know how stressed and unhappy those students are? What I do know is that, Hightower was built and created to be different and special. It was among the first with academies. It was among the first that allowed students from all over the district to attend. It was special from the beginning, so why are we taking away what made Hightower it is now.
