Hi all this is a growing problem for the Wollondilly Shire to be able to move forward for the future. There is currently 10 local primary schools that continue to increase numbers fast, all of these schools feed into Picton High School which operates with over possibly 2000 students. This does NOT include the local private schools This issue concerns me as i am within 2 years of one of my children going to high school, my main concern with a school with this many kids is the quality of the education that they will receive and how quickly and easily they can fall through the cracks. It is also my belief that private schools are NOT the answer to this problem, we need another option.

The momentum behind this building demand for a new high school proves that we are no longer willing to let the Department of Education ignore our children. They think they can pack thousands of kids into one overcrowded campus and call it an education but we are proving them wrong. We have finally forced them to pay attention to this crisis.

With so many young families moving to the area this is definietly needed right now, its going to bottle neck out of control in the coming years.

Another high school was promised 30 years ago. Now the population has grown and the situation is dire. Picton High was built for about 800 students. The crowding has a bad effect on behaviour. I know - I have taught there on and off during 30 years. Now I fear for my grandchildren' education.

As a teacher I saw the school grow from 700 to 1300 -it is waaay past time for another high school as the population continues to grow and many new estates planned.

Moving to the Wollondilly Shire this week I considered all my options for my children's schooling. Picton High which is way over capacity is not a suitable choice. I've had to enrol my children at the local private school so they don't become lost in close to 2000 students. The State & Federal Governments need to step up! An age old problem going by Parliamentary minutes - build another High School and fast!
