It is totally not fair to students who have studied 4 years and passed every class and not allow to graduate because of 1 test

I completely agree with this petition, this is a completely unfair way to hold back candidates from graduating.

Part of taking these exams are being able to utilize the test taking skills you have learned in order to answer a question in which you may not know the answer to. This can be comparable to when you are a nurse, and a situation happens that you don't know what to do. You use your critical thinking skills and skill set you have learned through standardized testing and 4 years of school to act on it. You don't make a petition every time you don't know how to treat your patient ! These students need to take responsibility.

I am commenting after being showed this by my daughter, a graduate of this program. I personally witnessed her spending hours studying for this exam- which she was well aware would be necessary to graduate. She passed the HESI and the NCLEX without difficulty. It's a shame the hard work and dedication to the profession my daughter exhibited- as well as the majority of her peers- is being tarnished by these students who simply couldn't pass an exam. Every major and program has exams.. what am I missing? Failed test=failed class= no diploma. Why should that be any different for these students

This is absolutely ridiculous. I genuinely do feel for those students that are being held back and were unable to graduate as a result of this exam but this is your problem. The other 75% of the class worked hard and was able to reach the set benchmark. They did what they needed to do in order to succeed. If the other 25% couldn't reach the benchmark, they either did not prepare the way they should have or they need additional tutor. This is not Duquesne's fault. You say that these students were able to succeed in their other classes? Great, then why aren't they succeeding on this? It's clearly not Duquesne's fault. They taught you in the previous classes. You cannot blame your failures on Duquesne. That isn't how this world works. Duquesne recognizes that this benchmark gives the students a greater chance of succeeding on the first time. Yes this benefits their pass rate but it benefits YOU too. Do you want to pay $200 again? Because I sure as hell don't want to. Stop blaming Duquesne, the faculty and this exam. Grow up and be a damn adult. Work for your success. You have no reason to be handed a diploma and a license if you didn't earn it. You will kill someone. This petition is ridiculous and honestly such an insult to the students who did succeed.

Passing this exam seems to be helping the schools pass rate (hence the fact that the pass rate went up 10%) which is also a win win for the students who pass the exam on their first try.

If over 75% of the students of the class of 2017 passed this exam, maybe the other 25% could use the extra help. Utilize the free tutoring!!

I think with holding degrees is terrible and a scam into get more money out of these students. Duquesne needs to consider what they are doing before they lose even more money.

I truly don't believe a standardized test will evaluate the actions of our practice in the real world.

I am in the ABSN program and I could not agree more with this petition. As a second degree student I knew I would be faced with difficult semesters taking 21-24 credits for 3 consecutive semesters, so the question of whether or not I am a hard worker is not even a debate. I do not agree with that fact that Duquesne has the right to hold a student back from graduation if all classes have been passed. The HESI is just a way for them to protect their pass rate, it has nothing to do with wanting what is best for th students.

I am in the ABSN program and I agree completely. If we can take 21-24 credit hours a semester and pass all of our classes and clinicals, we should be allowed to graduate without having to achieve a ridiculous score on a standardized test. The added stress and workload that passing this test creates is taking time from when we should be LEARNING and turning it into "how to pass the HESI" time. I would love if we were able to take the HESI to determine our likelihood of passing and therefore use that to gauge how much more we need to do before taking our NCLEX, but using it solely to prevent graduation is unfair.

As a student who benched on this HESI and recently passed the NCLEX-RN exam on the first try, I whole heartedly agree that the HESI is unfairly used against students. It prepared me for the nclex, yes that is true. But students who did not meet the 925 still could pass the nclex with flying colors, that's how arbitrarily different they are. I see it unnecessary to hold back people's degrees and dreams because of these standard tests.
