If you want to increase your pass rates, be more selective in who is accepted and determine in the first year or two, not days before graduation, after you've collected your full tuition money!

This is how they are hiding their sub-par education. Putting the full brunt of the teaching on the students themselves with thousands of assigned practice questions. Duquesne needs to step up and take responsibility and revamp their program instead of using the HESI to make their pass rates good. If you're teaching your students how you should be, they shouldn't need to be worried about passing the NCLEX.

Yes!! Everyone keeps defending Duquesne saying "oh it's free tutoring!" What about the time lost that they could be employed and working? I'm sure some of these grads had job lined up that they may have now lost. Or even paying to live in PGH (yes they supposedly got free housing), but the prices of food and other items are more here than other places the grads may have moved to. Maybe they had leases set up somewhere else already in anticipation of graduation, or maybe just the waste of the TIME and LIVES.
Let the NCLEX do it's job! Duquesne, do yours!

I am a Duquesne Nursing alum and this completely ruined my graduation ceremony and outlook on my four years of hard work.

My daughter, Shannon Mickey, was unable to graduate in May 2015 because she had a score of 909 only three days before graduation. She did not graduate. She lost her GPA that would have had her graduate with honors. WE HAD TO PAY AN ADDITIONAL $3,000 IN SUMMER TUITION! There were 25 students in the same boat that year. The graduating class of 2015 was the first year that Dean Glasgow upped the ante to 925. The summer class was not even HESI review. It was NCLEX review. I'm still furious after two years and want my $3,000 returned.

You should have enough confidence in the ability of your program to prepare nurses for NCLEX, that you do not need to attempt to falsely influence your pass rates by eliminating students that paid their tuition and attended Duquesne in good faith.

As a retired RN I can not understand how after 4yrs. of study in the Duquesne University School of Nursing Program they the right to deny a student their BSN and opportunity to take the NCLEX based on two standardized tests. The standardized test has always been the NCLEX-RN test. Doing this to increase the pass rate on the NCLEX to keep the schools accreditation is wrong and not fair to the students. Perhaps Duquesne need to re-evaluate their curriculum.

After 4 years of intense education in the School of Nursing, it is unfair to the students to deprive them of the opportunity to become RNs and particularly unfair to deprive them of their nursing degrees.

The bad publicity this is giving Duquesne should show them how ridiculous using the HESI is. Having been to various clinical sites, the main resounding theme is that Duquesne's students are not well-prepared in the clinical setting. Gee, maybe because they are teaching us to pass a test. If 4 years of classes and instruction are not enough to create a good nurse, Duquesne needs to accept responsibility and not just rely on an arbitrary exam to make them LOOK GOOD with their pass rates.
If you have to hide your educational faults with a test like HESI, that looks so much worse than having a slightly lower NCLEX pass rate...
But here's an idea: prepare your students correctly and thoroughly throughout the program and you won't need classes like Role Prep that teach us how to pass a test. Fix your program instead of blaming the students and forcing them to spend time on things that don't matter.
