Drug addiction is a disease, not a crime! Most people who suffer from these addictions have many underlying causes or lack of coping skills to traumas, abuse, etc. These people are crying for help, and should be allowed help! Not isolation and more abuse! Of course these people need to have consequences for their actions, but let's look at the underlying cause! Alcoholism is a disease, and people get through it! Well so is a drug addiction! How is putting these people through more trauma and anguish (prison time!) going to help them This petition is to change the laws for certain drug offenses. If there was no crime committed involving the drugs, why should they be treated as criminals They are addicts! Drug production, possession, and use should be treated as a medical condition that requires intensive rehabilitation. Not rehabilitation in a torture chamber called prison. How can someone truly learn to better themselves in a place where they can't even choose when to eat or sleep People living in fear! Help these people, and have mercy on them, as God does the rest of us for our mistakes. Most of these people with drug offenses need our help! Get them ordered into Psychotherapy and Drug Rehabilitation rather than treated like violent criminals. Addiction is a disease! Medical Illness! Not a crime! Help and forgive these people, as you would want someone to do unto you!
