Eric Balderas, a 19 year old sophomore at Harvard University, will have his immigration court hearing on July 6,2010, which will dictate whether he will remain in the United States. Eric was detained at the San Antonio International Airport while trying to fly back to Cambridge, MA for a summer research internship. Eric is a great example of the type of student that this country needs, so why deport him? By signing this petition, you are helping out a young man who might be sent back to Mexico, a country that he hardly knows. However, know that signing this petition will not determine the final verdict of his immigration hearing. It will help him by demonstrating how much support he has from other individuals, but we must do much more in order to garner more support for him. For example, students across the country should organize a separate petition in which they can gather a tremendous support for Eric by other fellow student peers. Imagine what an impact this can have if Eric goes to his immigration hearing on July with an immense amount of signatures from students all over the country?(And by immense, I am talking about 100,000+ signatures). Together, we can fight for a young man who, through his academic achievements, has proven to others that he deserves to be a part of this country!
