As an EX student, LAE's total disregard for anything religion boils down to their ignorance and twisted ideology that students cannot be good British citizens and Muslims at the same time. Senior Leadership at LAE fail to recognise that they set up an institution in Newham, and that 90%+ of the students are of a practising faith. They claim to be on par with Eton College and the likes of other high ranking private schools. It's ironic how those same schools are FOUNDED on Christian principles and that they have compulsory prayer gatherings every day.

It would be nice to have a prayer room.. but I think people here are overreacting. LAE hardly has enough space to fit the students into their lesson, let alone give us space for a prayer/reflection room. That is why the prayer room was replaced by a classroom. Classrooms are already really packed people how realistic is this? Even if they give us some space anyone that actually goes to LAE can say that it will not be an awful amount of space.. so that might get chaotic. Will we have enough space for males and females?Haven said that it would be really nice to have a prayer room.

In a world where fearmongering amongst the media is rife, I can understand the concern raised by masses of Muslims being together. What I cannot understand is, in an institution named the London Academy of Excellence, why they rise above ignorance and actually help their students in their prayers. Yes, it may be true that fear of Islam was not the root cause of this absurdist behaviour, but it is the only reason that makes sense; it's unlikely that LAE has an agenda against organised religion. What it essentially boils down to is this. Either LAE have succumbed to fearmongering and ignorance, or there is something else rather unsavoury afoot. Either way, it is only the students who suffer. The total loss of already substandard prayer facilities is a terrible loss to the Muslim community of LAE.

Students should be able to pray in college and with a place to pray. The college should not come in the way of a students education and faith, it's completely wrong . hopefully this will change.

Students do not want to compromise their faith to obtain a quality education. Many students are struggling to fulfill their religious obligations without these facilities.
