Oceano Beach Residents Association - by and through Mauri Tamborra
Petition:
The Oceano Beach Residents Association (OBRA) have come together for the simple purpose of addressing the 'Sand Pile-up' that is threatening our homes and the community's access to the beach. As a group, we collectively seek assistance or permission to immediately mitigate the massive buildup of sand, move it away from our homes and back towards the beach.
Project Information:
Move a large amount of sand on the seaward side of the Strand Way lots in Oceano, (separately or in collaboration with the San Luis Obispo County Planning Department, State Parks and the California Coastal Commission) to address the buildup of sand in the short and long term. The proposed project will be consistent with the immediate neighborhood. The maintenance project would allow sand to be cleared and maintained along a strip of land from the inland edge of the right-of-way (Strand Avenue paper street) and would extend towards the ocean, flattening the dunes and eliminating the massive sand build up that has occurred from the lack of wind fencing and changes in State Parks plowing patterns over the past three years. The street end areas providing vertical access from Strand Way would also be cleared and maintained, at a minimum on a biannual basis. In addition, the vehicle access area has been recently extended to an area that is approximately 80 feet from the homes versus the previous 150 feet. We are asking that the signposts be moved back to their original position and provide much needed protection for homeowners and guests from vehicular traffic.
Non-native and/or invasive vegetation seaward of the homes (eg., iceplant and non-native grass) would be removed.
Sand fencing and dune reshaping would be reinstated to reduce movement landward towards Strand Way homes.
The plan would include provisions for long term maintenance. The County, in collaboration with State Parks and the California Coastal Commission, may be responsible for initial implementation as well as long term maintenance.
Any Strand Way property owners will be given 60 days notice of the proposed plan before implementation of the plan.

The amount of sand against the back fence is getting ridiculous. My garage door is already starting to stick because of the drift.
