As someone who cares about the health of our oceans an in turn our planet, I stopped going to restaurants that served shark's fin a few years ago. I am one of a growing number of people who have made that decision. I have traveled to Thailand and Phuket many times and intend to again in the future it would be wonderful to be able to go to restaurants in Phuket that I know were shark fin free. After all there are alternatives to shark's fin that don't alter the taste or texture of Shark's Fin Soup in any way.

Hi Len, if you would like more information, you are welcome to also come and see me (Emma). This was a big issue in HK when I worked there and we did a great deal of research into the industry with the students at our schools. We found that many of the local people were choosing to use alternatives to Shark Fin soup (such as recreating it using tofu) so that they could maintain their tradition (particularly at weddings), but support sustainable practice. However, I am sure the students will also be able to share links and information to ensure you can make an informed decision!

While I will do my best to educate myself further - beyond the reading I have just done in deciding whether to sign this petition or not - about the traditions surrounding shark fin soup, it would be helpful if you could put some links on the petition to informative sites you have found. It is easy to sign a petition without knowing very much about the subject matter of the petition.
