Petco; a well known pet store that sells an array of food, supplies, live animals... and is responsible for the abandonment and euthanization of thousands of cuy guinea pigs.
What is a cuy?
Well, a cuy is a breed of guinea pig that is larger, more skittish and very untame compared to a normal guinea pig.
Why does Petco sell them then?
Because they are easy to get and can be easily passed off as a normal guinea pig to those who do not know what to look for.
Adopt!
Adopt a guinea pig! Visit La Guinea Pig Rescue! They have TONS Of guinea pigs for adoption! They are a no kill facility that takes in all types of guinea pigs, even cuys, and rehabilitates and socializes the cuys to be adopted.
