The commercial mugshot publishing industry has, and continues to plague American citizens all over the country.

Many local Sheriff’s Departments, and other law enforcement agencies will post mugshots of people who are arrested. While mugshots and arrest records are public information, sadly, many of those arrested are later discovered to be innocent, or have their records expunged/sealed by the courts.

However, the commercial mugshot websites refuse to remove the mugshots, unless outrageous fees are paid. These fees can range from a few hundred, to a few thousand dollars.

Some records on these mugshot websites also include your address, and in some cases, even a google maps image of the front of your home. Once again, if you want your information removed, the sites demand you to pay their fees.

So, even if you have paid your debt to society, been found not guilty, your charges were dismissed, or if you were arrested by mistake, the public shaming lives on.

Some States have passed laws against commercial mugshot websites making them illegal to charge, yet some states have yet to pass a the law. One such state is Florida, where they have broad sunshine laws to protect freedom of speech and freedom of the press.

While this does help some individuals and the news media, others have their future in jeopardy, including job loss, inability to find a new job, housing denial, and overall public humiliation.

This is a petition to the President of The United States, United States Congress, and Law Makers lawmakers to work together on a bipartisan bill that will help all victims of this site.
