I grew up with not just the rook but Jackdaw, Magpie and Jays in an agricultural community. The rooks were considered a part of the countryside with a role to play. I believe the policy of NZ to exterminate them is wrong because the land they prefer is open agricultural pasture where they for the most part do a great job eating Porana moths and grass grubs. They are intelligent and don't need to be told twice to leave a crop alone!

I have recently learnt how beneficial they are to farming. They reduce the need for pesticdes. This would also help our bees. Please reconsider the rook. I have

Leave these intelligent birds alone. The problems caused by humans is far greater, yet you don't support poison being dropped in homes, or people being shot. Wake up to the FACT humans are not the top creatures on the planet. All are important. If people in NZ cannot comprehend that, they should live in a cave.

I asked our council for evidence of ‘harm’ caused by rooks after they tried to promote their poisoning operation. They sent me ONE ambiguous photo from a farmer’s field. Pathetic.
