Rooks were encouraged at one to time in uk. Around farm houses to act as a warning against intruders. When a rookery is approached the rooks rise from nests and sound a warning.
If they caused significantly crop losses as being touted farmers would not of encouraged the establishment of rookery.

Rooks should not be eradicated based on an outdated pest label. Stop the eradication now. Protect the rooks that remain. Coexistence instead of extinction.

Using poison to kill any creature is inhumane for a start, and there is no legitimate reason given backed with evidence. Rooks are amazing at getting rid of grass grubs, which NZ could use help with.

A thorough investigation is required into these intelligent birds. Show the science do not quote that these birds are a burden to agriculture when, as invertebrates, they are very beneficial. Stop the poisoning! These guys eat grass grub! There is no safer way or cheaper way to rid pastures of invertebrate pests than these guys. Simply plant a walnut or oak tree, for when the bug life is low. The benefits are enormous. Look up the UK history with rooks. They are not the villans being portrayed.

Yes l notice there are a drop in magpies morporks well as hawks in our area of Manaia Coromandel l notice our Bush is quite as well same as the kereru and tui useless
I notice there is a drop in kereru magpies and tui in my area manaia Coromandel use to see them on the the kowhai trees beside my home l notice with in the last three years there a decline in the native species

A chopper has just come in to poison a rookery on Napier hill. We are beyond distressed!

Rooks are an important part of nature. Their presence isn’t obtrusive to wildlife, only to the farmers who have other, non-violent ways to keep them away from their crops anyway. Hurting these beautiful creatures is strictly punishable by law in my country, and I think it should be the same in every civilized country.
