Help Save The Labour Day Weekend Orangeville Fall Fair!
The Orangeville Fall Fair has been a staple event that brings our community together, celebrating our heritage and our beloved town. It's more than just a fair; it's a cherished tradition where families gather to enjoy the festivities, showcase talents, and support local businesses.
Sadly, there's a risk that we might lose this precious tradition. Changes in bylaws and municipal support threaten the future of the fair, putting this beloved tradition at risk. Without action, our community stands to lose not only a fun weekend but also a significant piece of our cultural history.
The Mono Town Council has changed the noise bylaw to make the exemption permits incredibly hard to acquire. The AG society receives a very large portion of its money from events such as Truck/Tractor Pull, Demolition Derby, Monster Truck Shows, Rodeos and the Midway. All of these events would be in violation of the rules they have set.
The rules state “no person shall be able to emit noise”. They deem noise as “...likely to disturb the inhabitants”. These regulations are so vague and leave so much to temporary opinion that the Orangeville Fall Fair cannot be guaranteed year over year in absolute. Should the AG society be unable to host these events, it is almost guaranteed that the AG society will be unable to afford its expenses and be forced to shut down.
This would have devastating effects on the local economy and the sense of community surrounding it. estimates from years past have put the total economic impact of the AG societies events at $5 million in economic contribution to the community. For years kids and adults of all ages looked forward to watching the amazing power and roar of the truck/tractor pull, the insane carnage of the demolition derby, the outstanding skill of the rodeo riders, the bright nostalgic lights of the fair rides and the local vendors who come out in droves to support the event. If the fair were to fall, generations to follow would be robbed of the experiences we have now.
Its our duty to not only enjoy the fair as we have it today, but ensure the generations to follow can have the chance to enjoy it as well. We also need to support the local events and competitors to ensure their passions stay alive and thriving.
if there are any questions please contact the Orangeville Agriculture Society: 519 942-9597. we will be presenting the case for the fair noise exemptions on March 10 at 9am, the meeting will be held at 347209 Mono Centre Road, Mono, ON L9W6S3, if you would like to show support in person, it would be massively appreciated.
Thank you for your support!
