President Obama and several other Government officials have recently hinted that they are going to decrease the amount of money paid to Social Security recipients. This decrease will greatly harm elderly retirees - and those who plan on retiring in the future. This change is being contemplated by the Government because it says as of the year 2023, Social Security will no longer have enough funds on hand to pay out allotted amounts to those who receive Social Security. If this reduction is allowed to take place, the lowering of Social Security payments to elderly retirees will do tremendous harm to them - since most, if not all, Social Security recipients depend on that money to live -- many or most of whom have little or no other income ! Rather than harm the elderly, President Obama and the US Government needs to fix the Social Security system by doing what it should have done years ago = Tax those who make over $107,000 per year = Require them to pay Social Security tax on all their income. Now, those who make over $107,000 per year are not required to pay Social Security tax on that income ! The current tax system favors the wealthy and punishes the "have-nots." The tax system has needed an overhaul for a very long time. Also, this should include taxing those whose income is derived by owning their companies and work as a "independent contractors." Those people do not have taxes taken out of their income when it is made, and can opt out of paying Social Security tax. It's time for the rich to be compelled to "step up to the plate." Don't let President Obama and the U.S. Government take any more away from hard working people who have retired (or will be retiring soon). Then there is also the issue of income tax levied on Social Security income. That should also be completely outlawed ! The working class has had to carry the wealthy for far too long. The wealthy get too many tax breaks as it is ! Of course the Government officials want this lowering of Social Security payments - they are in that wealthy group who don't want to have to pay the tax !
