Why do our utility workers deserve hazardous pay?
Water is an essential that we need for cooking, cleaning, showers and day to day living. As of today our Utility workers are being exposed to COVID 19 because they are an essential and have to (meter read, be on call for emergencies, and maintain clean running water) in Beaumont. Additionally, now that everyone is at home they are being more exposed due to, people being around them, while they are doing there daily duties. Additionally, they are leaving their home in hopes that they are not bringing the virus back to their own families. Meanwhile, at Beaumont-Cherry Vally Water District they are keeping their employees working shorter shifts and we are grateful for that, but they are not getting hazardous pay (that’s needed to help take care of their families) and they are an essential because we need to have clean running water in our homes.

Additionally, Beaumont is one of the fastest growing cities in Southern California with an estimated 48,401 people increasing by 4% as of today, so now they are a potentially at a higher risk of being exposed to the virus. Yucaipa is approximately two towns over with an increasingly higher cases of the virus, so Yucaipa Water District closed down for the next two weeks (with pay and job security) to ensure their employees will
remain safe. Although, some utility companies are not doing that, I am
petitioning that they receive hazardous pay, while this pandemic is rapidly growing.

We the people and communities need to come together and sign this petition to help the Utility workers receive hazardous pay, that they deserve until this is over. Because we all need to have clean running water to survive this pandemic.

We do not want the company to discriminate or lay them off without pay because of this petition, but we are asking to help keep them stay safe through this.
Donations for masks, gloves, sanitizers, toilet paper would also be greatly appreciated because the company is not able to find the essential items to keep their employees safe, but they are doing a wonderful job in finding what they can to keep their employees safe.

Please sign this petition today to help the people at Beaumont-Cherry Water District receive hazardous pay because they are putting their life’s on the line when they go to work.
Please don’t discriminate against the workers because of this petition by lying them off without pay as they need to provide for their families. We are requesting hazardous pay as other companies are doing for their employees.
