I was arrested a couple years back. All of my charges were dropped but my good name has smeared by these scumbags. Here is the link to my Mugshots.com page- http://mugshots.com/US-Counties/New-Jersey/Bergen-County-NJ/Jonathan-Eric-Long.52115185.html. Please tell me how to get these extortionist scumbags back.

Just saw the documentary yesterday. Didn't know there was an extortion business to mugshots let alone have it be so open about it. Says a lot about our due process. Here to expose. Natasha you take chances. Keep that up.

It is a shame to use extortion as a means of survival. Should be illegal to host a site where individuals are charged for removal of photos.

I am a victim of the mugshot situation and my case was dismissed. But people calling my family asking how many years did I receive? If I am in jail? Is he ok? Ect

Blatant misuse of public information. These people need to go away. Also I heard Google has delisted them in search. (Way to go "do no evil", Google!)

That only exists in a court of Law! these sites just assume your guilty.

Websites shouldn't profit from others when they are innocent or guilty. Mugshots of those that are found to be innocent should be taken off all websites because this could cause more issues in their future. Now for those that have been convicted of a crime those mugshots should be shared on these websites to caution the public and communities of dangers.

I don't think it's a good idea to torture people with their mugshots. Some people end up in jail not because they are bad people and to have their mugshots displayed for life is like reliving the experience once again. Some people really do learn from their mistakes and deserve to be respected.

These kind of scams have been going on in this country for far too long. Why has Florida been unable to pass a law against this? Is it because many news organizations in that state also make money by exploiting access to mugshots? I feel as though if a person has paid their dues and especially if they have paid and taken the all necessary steps to have their record expunged and/or sealed then there is no reason why their mug shot or anything else related to the arrest should be left online.

I have a tremendous entrepreneurial spirit and believe that in America you can become successful in multiple ways; however, the line is drawn when you find success by harming others. These sites are exploiting the likeness of every individual on there, and those individuals aren't even compensated for allowing (or disallowing) these sites to use their likeness for monetary gain. There is a loophole in the way we define extortion in our laws, and these sites are exploiting that. The definition states a threat must be made... but no threat is made... action is already taken and one must pay to have the action stop. I urge all states and local governments to do the right thing and update the definition of extortion in its statues. I believe this to be the right thing to do, and the only way to ensure this scam isn't repeated. The individuals running the sites, that have scraped all Police websites which display the mugshots, still have all the photos and the data. I personally, still see the mugshot pop up once in a while whenever I take an action or say something publicly about the industry, even though the Sherriff's department which arrested me in 2007 stopped publishing the mugshots of people all together. The owners of these sites are criminals. We elected our officials to protect us through legislation. Please do the right thing and update the extortion definitions for your respective districts.

They will go back many years and post your picture in their paper as if it happened today. They are ruining people's lives who have changed their life around
