I can't imagine something so terrible happening to a girl in high school. Could our so called responsible politicians imagine the same happen to their children or relatives?

A beautiful appeal from Father Rod to all Australians to change their hearts about refugees. The charismatic priest from Gosford Anglican church (yes, the one with the socially relevant noticeboard) was outside the Department of Immigration yesterday, to raise awareness about the persecution of Mojgan Shamsalipoor. The year 12 student from Yeronga High School in Brisbane, just 3 months away from her HSC, was dragged off by the hair and isolated in a detention camp in Darwin last week. Mojgan fled Iran after being raped and tortured, and to escape a forced marriage, as a minor, with a 60 year old man. If that doesn't make you a refugee, asks Father Rod, then what does? Since coming to Australia, Mojgan has found the love of her life, Milad, whom she dated for 2 years and then married in October last year. He is understandably heart-broken, as are the community they were so much a part of. Mojgan's fellow students and teachers have since been undergoing trauma treatment after this shocking forced removal, but with the support of local residents, they line the streets to demand her return. How can we allow a broken life to mend, for years, and then so brutally destroy it again? Since Iran does not accept forced returns (refoulement), Mojgan will now be 'persuaded' by her captors to request it. Bloody hell Australia. Is this what we are? the Australian government need to be reminded of what a refugee means, and they need to be reminded of what young individuals go through getting to Australia. If they did this would not be happening.

Show humanity, not misogyny, in this case and all others where women are at risk of rape.

Please release Mojghan immediately and allow her to join her husband in Brisbane. It's time to show compassion and humanity. Seeking asylum is legal.
