Peter Dutton’s response - that he “doesn’t wish to intervene in this matter” is diabolical. He is the Minister for Immigration after all. A compassionate decision is what is expected from anyone with a single shred of humanity. Failing that, he could at least demonstrate some empathy by explaining his negativity to this particular case. It would be hard letter to write but that’s what he’s paid for.

What happened to the welcoming country Australia presented itself as, at the Sydney Olympics? Since when is forced marriage not a legitimate reason to become a refugee?
